This year, we did a complete sand and paint of the Boston Celtics floor for the second time, and here’s why that is such a huge deal for us.
Being in the sports flooring business, it’s impossible not to recognize the Boston Celtics parquet court as the most iconic basketball court ever. It was the first, and really the only, parquet style basketball floor that was played on at such a high level. And it became associated with the whole franchise.
Everyone is familiar with the idea of a home court advantage, we all check our favorite team’s schedule to see when we’ll have that advantage throughout the season. Well, throughout the years, the Celtics court became the epitome of the home court advantage. The players knew where the dead spots on the floor were, and trapped players in those dead spots.
Basically, in basketball and pop culture history, the Celtics court is THE basketball court.
Then, in 1995, the original Garden arena was torn down and replaced with the TD Garden. When that happened, the Celtics made the change from a permanent basketball court to a portable one.
Connor Sports made the court, and when they did, they took boards from the original court and integrated them into the new portable floor.
In fact, and here’s your new favorite fun fact, those original boards are situated underneath legendary coach Red Auerbach’s signature that is painted on the current floor.
At Praters, we’re not just working in the basketball industry – we are huge basketball fans. And as basketball fans, being trusted to work with and provide service for the Boston Celtics is an unbelievable opportunity for us.
